Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com An excellent read..More please!! | Customer Rating: | This has to be one of the best books I've read in quite a while. His take on office life is something I can relate to - I used to work for an insurance company, though minus the cubicles the poor souls have to work in thank god! The characters are well written and it makes you wonder how many people close to home have influenced his writing.
Cynical and hilarious, I'd recommend it to anyone.
| Funny gags strung together | Customer Rating: | | Basically this book is a load of very funny gags and observations strung together into a story that is pretty thin that just fizzles out. There are parts of this book that make you laugh out loud but overall the story says nothing and about half way through it becomes apparent that there is not much in the way of plot. At the end everything just seems to be sewn up within 2-3 pages without much thought. | Quirky, interesting, humorous | Customer Rating: | | unexpected from the first page, this little tale starts nowhere, ends nowhere but does it with a crass and knockabout style which makes it hugely enjoyable. The observations are crisp and the imagery vivid. There are flat points, and you have to relax into the world to avoid fighting the plausibility of the characters, however, this is not the point. Amusing, clever in places and overall a good read. | Funny, but not THAT funny | Customer Rating: | | This is he first book by this author so I will try not to be too harsh. The book is funny places, but overall it just seems a bit too glib for my liking. Jokes are recycled throughout the book so you end up with almost constant deja vu as you read it. | Not a LOL book but an enjoyable enough romp | Customer Rating: | | I bought this book purely on the reviews listed on Amazon and I have to say i was slightly disappointed. I was looking for a book which would make me laugh out loud but I just didn't find it that funny - and I don't believe I have a sense of humour bypass. However, once I realise i wasn't going to get many humourous anecdotes from this, I began to enjoy the read and admittedly, it was very quirky in its approach. There are parts of the author's prose which I could really associate with from an office perspective (cubicle mentality) but I think I'll be in the minority in not finding this book that comical. It's an enjoyable enough romp but it didn't crack me up. |
