Strong and really easy to use

This is a good book for taking false assumptions out of spirituality. He demystifys this topic and takes the religiosity out of it. The delivery is very strong and he takes a look at life, pshycology and spirituality with the eye of one who has gone well beyond the accepted norm concerning these subjects. It's a simple book anyone could intellectually grasp, and maybe even be able to spiritually apply.

This is a book about 'waking up' and enlightenment as De Mello calls it, so it really hasn't anything to do with religion ~ so the review someone else left about it not being accepted by the church ~ Who Cares? The church's obviously don't know anything about enlightenment, whereas Anthony De Mello definitely does. De mello makes some strong points and uses a little 'blasphemy' which lends authority to the truths he speaks. It's such a good book that I read it 3 times.

Anthony De Mello was a gifted writer, and a charismatic teacher but his books certainly aren't in line with a lot of Catholic teaching, which was why concerns have been expressed by the Holy Catholic Church about his writings. Officially we are told to read with 'discernment'. I would advise Catholic readers to take notice of this official advice from the Vatican.

a great work

It saddens me that some Catholics find this book unchristian - the point is that this book reaches the spiritual truth that is at the heart of every religious tradition. It goes beyond demonination and beyond concepts and beliefs - right to the essence of reality itself, where is nothing but pure consciousness and well-being. Anthony DeMello was a spiritual teacher who just happened to express himself in a Christian framework. But really there's little difference between him and teachers like Eckhart Tolle or Krishnamurti. In fact I came across this book on the recommended reading list on Eckhart Tolle's website, where I have found other fantastic books such as The Fall by Steve Taylor The Fall:the Insanity of the Ego in Human History and the Dawning of a New Era: The Insanity of the Ego in Human History and the Dawning of a New Era.

A wonderful book

I was introduced to this book about 10 years ago by a Catholic priest at a time when I was thinking about becoming a Catholic. That never happened & my convictions have since changed considerably: Today I'm a convinced atheist (which I had been before my turn to Catholicism) but I still read and re-read this book on a regular basis. It is one of the richest books I have ever read and even though I know it cover to cover, I invariably feel refreshed each time I go to it. It's a book I would like to be able to thank the author for writing, though I know Anthony De Mello died ten years before I was first handed this wonderful book.

Be in charge of your emotions.

This book will surely broaden your mind.Theres lots of ideas to think about and some very practical help with life.Ive got upset a few times recently where someone insulted me but i couldn't understand why i so upset by insults until i read this book now i can change and be more in control of my emotions.I was impressed with the idea the big question in life isn't is there a God? but what or who am i?.This book like perhaps all spiritual books seems to contradict charity(only give from the heart) and the idea of so much suffering in the world. Neale Donald Walsch in Conversation with God 3 perhaps explains this better as so much we see with our own eyes is an illusion that gives us the opportunity to express who we are in relation to it. Be open minded and explore reality. If everything is energy then everything in life can be an illusion.
