I was shocked when I read this manga...I enjoyed it so much! The storyline is detailed and intreging, while at the same time not confusing; bits are added at different times so as to not confuse anyone. Furthermore, not only is the storyline great but the animation is good also. To be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be this good, but even if you've not read manga before, I guaruntee you'll find it hard to put this book down!

Death Note is a best selling manga set in our world a world where crime roams free and one man wants that gone.... well more like he wants it dead.

He will do anything to do just that.

Now I wont go into the story much as its been said so meny times there is no point. But what I will say that it is fantastic with a plot and cast that will suck you right in.

The fact that it has a hit anime series now two movies and a spin off film says something.

I hope you buy this and love every bit as I have done.

Simple Premise: Perfect Execution

I have recently discovered Manga and having recently completed Osama Tezuka's incomparable Buddha series Buddha: Kapilavastu (Buddha), thought I'd look for something a little more contemporary. Intrigued by it's premise, I had picked up the Deathnote novel Death Note: A Novel: Another Note (Death Note): A Novel: Another Note (Death Note), without initially realising that it had been inspired by an existing Manga series, so this seemed like the ideal place to start.

It's fair to say, I was blown away. The premise is elegantly simple; A teenage prodigy finds a notebook belonging to a Death God. The book enables him to kill anybody he chooses, anywhere in the world. This single idea spawns a complex morality tale, about justice, punishment and how to build a better society.

Once the world's most heinous criminals start dying en masse, the world's most successful criminologist, the mysterious 'L', is called in to track the perpetrator. What follows is a fascinating came of cat-and-mouse as the two towering intellects attempt to out do each other.

Deathnote, reminded me of 'Battle Royale'Battle Royale (Gollancz S.F.) (the novel, I havent read any of the Manga books) which also has a single, violent premise at its centre, but engages the reader, forcing them to consider the world around them. Both novels are horrifying in their detail but at their core, the events and motives of the characters, although exaggerated, are believable. Deathnote is an extremely enjoyable read. If you have never read any Manga or fancy exploring the genre's darker recesses, then you could do a lot worse than starting here.

My first manga

I've been in to anime for a little while now, and recently decided to give manga a go. I've always liked the art style in American comics so was interested to see what manga was like. Well I've been hearing loads about Death Note recently (and I've ordered the first volume of the anime), so thought for my first manga to give it a try.
IT'S BRILLIANT!!!
The artwork is great, and some panels really stand out thanks to some stunning detail. This first volume introduces some of the main charcaters and the overall plot, as well as the vast power of the Death Note. It's a great start to what I can tell will be a great series (just have to get all the other volumes now:p). I have absolutely no problems with this manga, but there was one thing I was surprised about. I expected it to be like an actual comic, but it's actually just a small paperback book. Nothing wrong wih that though, saves a lot of space!
A brilliant manga and looking forward to purchasing more. Very highly recommended.

The best manga in a long time.

I started following this series when a friend introduced me to the anime when it started airing on Japanese TV. I don't follow anime and manga as much as I used to when I was younger but I still dip into it now and again and the Death Note anime really got me hooked. The animation was gorgeous and the pace was fast and furious. About two weeks ago I was browsing in my local Waterstone's and saw the first book of the manga in the recommended reading section and decided to give it a go. I'm now onto book 7 and I simply can't stop reading. The translation is pretty decent and the books are presented in their original unflipped format which is a big bonus. This is one series that you really shouldn't miss out on, both manga and anime (when it is eventually released over here).
