I've had the film on DVD but have never actually watched it. Found the book lying around in my house the other day- it's amazing! Kinda gives you the creeps the same way 1984 does where you realise so much of it's true, even if you don't want it to be. Also rather funny in places.

I must admit I didn't really like the Afterword though. I realise Palahniuk was trying to illustrate how Fight Club really was his idea and how it had captivated the world but by him listing everything just made it seem boastful and I was skimming most of it thinking 'okay shut up now'. The greatness of the book wasn't hindered by that though :) Read it!

Good piece of transgressional fic, but highly overrated
Customer Rating:  Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3
It was hard to read this book without making comparisons with the brilliant 1999 film with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. But to judge it on its own: it has some interesting social insights, is written is a fresh style, has a good plot twist, but has too little characterization and too little description. For example: the Tyler of the film was sexy, intelligent, and charismatic. The Tyler of the book is rather dull and we never really get an "image" of what he looks like or how he behaves; only that he fights and is full of philosophical thoughts against society.

Still, it was an enjoyable experience.

challenging the status quo

More than just a book - Fight Club is an entire philosophy. And regardless of if you happen to agree with Chuck Palahniuk's view of the world, it's a compelling read. Anything that questions reticence and challenges the status quo way is a good thing... and Chuck Palahniuk does exactly that.

An enlightening read.

Difficult to absorb
Customer Rating:  Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4
I watched the film first and I have to admit this was only half of what I was expecting. I managed to finish the whole thing. It was disturbing only if you got into it but try as I might, I found it difficult. Maybe some other time when I'm more determined to 'dwelve' into a book I might try again.

Never seen the film...
Customer Rating:  Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4
....but bought the book for lack of anything else to read and it is excellent.

Engrossing, revolting, intelligent, disgusting and downright readable (I hate using made up words).

This book is only as violent as your own mind makes it, with some very sick ideas played against a wonderful writing style.

All in all, I'd recommend this to anyone...Now just need to see the movie.
