It's about no-nonsense, simple cooking with great flavours all year round. When I began writing it, I didn't really know what recipes I would come up with, but something began to inspire me very quickly... my vegetable patch! I came to realise last year that it's not always about looking out at the wider world for inspiration. Being at home, feeling relaxed and open, can also offer this. I love to spend time at home in the village where I grew up, working with the boss, Mother Nature, in my garden and seeing all my beautiful veggies coming out of the ground. Inside, you'll find over 100 new recipes, plus some basic planting information and tips if you fancy having a go at getting your hands dirty as well! The fabulous new cookbook from the international bestseller ties in with his new Channel 4 series about no-nonsense, simple cooking inspired by growing your own vegetables. wonderful | Customer Rating: | an amazingly inspirational book. i have since planted veggies and nowonly buy seasonal produce. a beautiful book with recipes that work. when will we see a full veggie cook book? | VERY good | Customer Rating: | | A well put together book that shines amongst a lot of other cookbooks out there (Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking--which I loved but some hated, or "Kitchen Diaries), this book fascinated me because it came recommended from a friend who can't cook anything! That, plus the fact that I'm probably the only person who hasn't watched the show, led me to see what the fuss was about. I'm not a vegetarian, but even so there are recipes here aplenty that I would make. The real reason to buy this is for your FRIENDS who are vegetarians--we all know what a pain that can be; trying to find something that everyone can eat. Would also recommend "Frugal Foods" for another canon to the genre. | The Good Life Starts Here! | Customer Rating: | Having watched the excellent and informative TV series I decided to part with my cash and buy the book of the series.
I have not been disappointed, the dishes I have tried taste wonderful, in particular potatoes and onions roasted in half a bottle of balsamic vinegar! Awesome!
The combination of grow it then cook it works well.
This is one of the most honest, unpretentious "celebrity" cook books you could find, full of easy recipes bursting with flavour.
The book would make an excellent present to both an experienced cook and novice alike.
Absolutly superb.
The only drawback, I now want an oven in the garden! | Great TV series, great book | Customer Rating: | I think Mr.Oliver has hit on a real winning combination in his new TV series - great recipes combined with handy beginner-gardener hints, and THANK GOD nice calm camera work that doesn't leave you feeling seasick and smacking the channel-change button after two minutes! This book is a great companion to the series, even if you don't have endless supplies of your own line of (expensive!) pans, olive oil delivered to your door by the tanker-load, and your own wood-fired blast furnace in the garden :-)
I never dreamed anyone would convince me to try making my own pasta, or to squeeze the meat out of sausages to make meatballs, but he has... and yes, it was fun! | A Cross between Gardners' World & Egon Rone | Customer Rating: | I like this book. The information on how to grow veg is brilliant and makes me want to have a go, and I'm not a green fingered person at all.
I made the Eggy Breakfast Crumpets for my husband one lunchtime (It's the only Piece of "crumpet" he's allowed at home!), and it's one of the quickest, easiest and economical things to make and can be used as a meal for any time of the day.
My three year old twins took an interest to it and I made a total of eight crumpets for breakfast the following morning, omitting the chilli, using bacon and sausage and my daughter polished off nearly three of them! What a successfull recipe. We are looking forward to trying some more recipes very soon. |
