A real gem of a book that managed to inform, inspire and surprisingly move me. The writing style manages to be both educational and informal and this is no dry read. At various times I was giggling, dropping my jaw in awe or being moved close to tears. The stories behind these amazing images really bring to life the process that went into their creation - the workload is just phenomenal. My only gripe is that the pictures aren't accompanied by a full technical captions (lens,f-stop, shutter speed etc.) BUT, even if they were there's no way in the world I'm gonna be making shots like this! Fantastic, inspirational book. I'll be going back to it for a long time.

Joe McNallys has a wonderfull way of writing, I've just come on Amazon to buy his new book. The way he tells the story of each picture, what happened, how he had to find ways arround tricky real life situations giving simple and inexpensive real life tips, was inspiring fun and heart warming. There wasn't a page I thought I wouldnt bother reading because I knew about that. In fact I couldn't wait to turn the page to the next story and I learnt so much. A great book which I would highly recommend to anyone who want to be a little more creative.

Secrets from a 'shooter'	Customer Rating:
Not many secrets here, thats just a sales come on. Some usefull beginners info but sadly let down by the appalling print quality, this is a PHOTOGRAPHY book you know, the quality of the images should be much better than this!! May appeal if you want to be a 'shooter' too!

Inspirational and an entertaining read

Each 2-page spread of this book is divided into three sections: a technical description of how it was done, the photo itself and an entertaining story about it. This approach works extremely well; you get the best of all worlds. I found it technically informative though not dull, the photos are all very good and sometimes astonishing, and some of the stories are moving or laugh-out-loud funny. They also give an insight into the life of a hard-working travelling photographer. And you get to see a labelled picture of Joe McNally's photographic equipment that he takes around with him. The language at times was slightly annoying though - after a while you start keeping a mental tally of the number of times a piece of equipment is "that puppy". Nonetheless, five stars.

Ive read it cover to cover and now read snippets out of it as well as just page through it looking at the images. Overall it is inspiring, yes it does have some overview instructions, which are not laid out step by step. So don't expect it. If you want a beginners how to do it book there are some great ones around. Very pleased to have this book in my library, Thank you Joe.
